Before Our Eyes
A calling to keep things simple

"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Hebrews 13:5

The term KISS, rudely meaning ‘Keep it Simple, Stupid’, was first used by Kelly Johnson, lead engineer with Lockheed. He asked his designers to ensure everything was simple enough to be repaired by a man in a combat situation with only some basic mechanic’s training and simple tools. Every Day with Jesus embraces this principle, recognising that Christians engage in challenges every day and need simple, practical tools to love and serve God effectively. Selwyn Hughes, EDWJ’s founder, always wanted biblical truth presented in a simple and straightforward manner. Following Jesus is not complicated and offers everyone the opportunity to live their best life.

Over these next two months our notes are written by award-winning author Sheila Jacobs, who has contributed to our popular Insight series addressing human wellbeing. As such, Sheila is well-placed to guide us in our return to the simple truths involved in practically following Jesus and enriching our lives every day and in every way. Jesus encourages us to consider the birds of the air and the lilies of the field who don’t worry about life’s necessities, yet still enjoy God’s provision. As we face the current cost of living crisis, we too are reminded to consider God’s promise to neither fail nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5).

The Bible presents us with the foundation for both our confidence and authority as Christians. These scriptures are the same as those that informed the lives of the desert Fathers in the third century. Since then, the Christian community has recognised that the biblical text offers the only reliable and proven insight into the character, purpose and nature of God. Centuries of testimony further illustrate its essential nature in enabling successive generations to maintain a faithful witness whilst discovering the fullness of life Jesus promised (John 10:10). Which is why we encourage you both to read and to distribute EDWJ to everyone you meet.

Every blessing, Dr Micha Jazz – Head of Waverley Abbey Ministries
